Supporting Youth and Seniors
in Our Community
Although a key focus of the work we do is to honour and support Canada’s Veterans, The Royal Canadian Legion grew from a history of service. Today, we continue that tradition by volunteering in our communities, helping to build a stronger Canada.

Support for our Youth
Did you know the Legion is a major supporter of youth activities in Canada? We work with schools and youth organizations to keep the memories of our Fallen Veterans alive. We also support programs like Cadets, Scouts, Guides, and youth sports to help build future leaders.
Youth Education
The Royal Canadian Legion is dedicated to keeping the tradition of Remembrance alive for younger generations. We promote education about Veterans and Remembrance through various local and national initiatives.
We encourage schools to hold Remembrance Day Ceremonies, distribute Poppies and educational materials, and offer speakers to share stories about Veterans. Other activities include:
-
Commemorative ceremonies for youth
-
Support for Cadets, Scouts, and Guides
-
Partnership with Cadets for the Poppy campaign
-
Encouraging youth participation in Remembrance ceremonies
-
Youth scholarship and bursary programs
National Youth Remembrance Contests
Join the annual National Youth Remembrance
Contests! The Legion National Foundation, with
the help of The Royal Canadian Legion and
schools, invites Canadian youth to honour
Veterans through art, writing, and video.
Winners at the national level receive cash prizes.
First Place Senior Winners get a trip to Ottawa to
represent Canadian youth at the
National Remembrance Day Ceremony.

Poster, Literary, and Video Contests
These contests have multiple levels of competition. Poster and literary works start at the local level and move up to the provincial level. Video entries start at the provincial level. Provincial finalists then compete at the national level.

In addition to our commitment to youth,
we also provide support for our seniors.
Support for our Seniors
The Legion works to keep in touch with our members who have or are experiencing a medical event. We also want to acknowledge the passing of a Legion member, or a member of their family.
We offer this service by:
-
sending cards of support
-
attending Celebrations of Life.
We want our members to know we are thinking about them, and they are not forgotten. We all face life challenges, and this is one way we can keep in touch.
We also respect your privacy during these times. To do this, we ask our Legion members to be our 'eyes and ears' and call us to let us know about your fellow members, who may want a supportive word, acknowledgement, or visit as they cope with these life events.
Branch Members are invited to visit veterans hospitalized or sick at home. Comradeship is central to the Legion and this Branch.
